Cortisol is controlled by the hormones produced by the pituitary gland in your brain. When your adrenal gland can’t produce enough cortisol hormone, we call this adrenal insufficiency or cortisol deficiency. Depending on the cancer treatment you received, cortisol deficiency can happen immediately or, following radiotherapy, it can happen over many years.
