Childhood cancer can significantly disrupt education and school engagement. In a study of 102 parents, treatment-related physical effects commonly interfered with attendance and participation. One-fourth reported their child’s academic performance worsened after diagnosis, yet most children were never evaluated for educational needs or received formal accommodations. The findings highlight ongoing educational challenges during treatment and survivorship and the need to better educate school staff about cancer’s short- and long-term effects.
