CAC2 Advocacy Alert: End-of-Year Call to Action

During our October federal advocacy drop-in session, we learned about several pieces of legislation that had a good chance to pass before the end of the year and also alerted everyone that “advocates may be called on to make a final push between now and the end of the year.”  That time has come!

During this week of action, we need your help:

Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act230 organizations (about a third from CAC2) have signed a letter urging lawmakers to pass the bill in the end-of-year legislative package (here’s a link to that letter).

Beginning today, December 9th we call on the community to join together and urge Congress to pass AKACA before the end of the year. The Week of Action hashtag is #KidsDeserveBetter, and below is a link to a toolkit for you to use that includes:

Gabriella Miller Kids First 2.0 legislation is the other bill that we can take across the finished line before the end of the year.  Once passed, this bill would fund approximately $190 million for childhood cancer and disease research.

The ask is quite different and more narrow than for the AKACA. There are two senate offices that are holding up its passage – one from Kentucky and another from Utah. These senators need to hear from their constituents!  Who do you know that lives in Kentucky and Utah that would take a few minutes – and four clicks – to send a pre-scripted email?

Watch the two minute tutorial video to see how easy it is to do.

If this type of activity excites you, consider participating in the 15th Annual Alliance for Childhood Cancer Action Days. Action Days brings our community together to advocate for important childhood cancer issues currently before Congress. The Alliance for Childhood Cancer is excited to hold Action Days in Washington, DC in February 2025!  Register for Action Days 2025

Also, mark your calendar for the next CAC2 Federal Advocacy drop-in session:  noon ET on Thursday, February 13.
