Guest Blog–SAVE MEDICAID: Materials to Share with your Communities

At CAC2 we are focused on children with cancer, but the issues impacting them are wide ranging and often far bigger than what the childhood cancer community can accomplish on their own.  We align with others— sometimes leading the charge, sometimes following and supporting their efforts. The following post is a Call to Action from the Haystack Project: The Voices of Rare and Ultra Rare (https://haystackproject.org).

We know many rare disease families rely on Medicaid as a primary or secondary insurance provider.

Medicaid as you know it and rely on it is in jeopardy as a result of proposals coming to a vote this week.

Families like yours who have already called in have forced even worse cuts to be left on the cutting room floor. But this week’s vote will mean another 7.6 million people could get cut from the Medicaid program.

The good news is – Advocacy is working!

Please call now and tell your Representative in Congress what Medicaid means to you and your family in just a few easy steps:

  1. Google ‘Find My Representative’ (first link is to house.gov) or call 202-224-3132 to
learn who your Representative is and their phone #.
  2. Make the call! Tell the staff who answers (both House and Senate) what Medicaid
does for your family and what would happen if those benefits were taken away. The
staff is there for people just like you, and they are sharing the numbers of concerned
callers each day with your Representative. Don’t be intimidated because you’ve
never done this before. Make sure you are counted! Too much is at stake!
  3. If you have 30 more seconds, pass this one to a loved one to do the same!
